The Veronicas return to the spotlight today releasing their incredible new single, ‘The Only High’. The emotional, raw and powerful ballad is available now on all digital service providers through Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
Ten years ago, The Veronicas wrote one song with American Shelly Peiken, whose CV includes Meredith Brooks’ ‘Bitch’, the Divinyls’ ‘Human’ and Christina Aguilera’s ‘What a Girl Wants.’ Their collaboration was called ‘Hook Me Up’ and went on to become The Veronicas’ first Australian No.1.
“Ten years on we got back together for one more session and we came up with ‘The Only High’. We just have some kind of chemistry with her that you can’t explain. She really gets to the heart of us,” recalls Jessica Origliasso.
‘The Only High’ is The Veronicas at their most raw and exposed. Stripped back to just a piano, melodies and the truth, it’s a powerful look in the rear view mirror – their lived-in vocals telling the story. There’s lyrics about drinking and evocative references to being hungry and broken, cold showers and hardwood floors.
“It’s a coming of age story, where we’ve been in love and life,” Lisa Origliasso says.
“Back in your twenties you’re discovering your boundaries in life, whether it’s with relationships or friendships and partying,” Jess further explains.
‘The Only High’ is the last song written for The Veronicas’ upcoming fourth album, due later this year.
