The songwriter’s 2019-released song, which has hit #1 in over 30 countries, is now the most streamed song ever by a female artist on Spotify.
Having ticked over 7 billion streams across all streaming platforms, ‘Dance Monkey’ hashad over 1 million iTunes downloads, over 300 million streams on Apple Music, reached over 1.4 billion streams on Spotify, plus Tones And I has recently surpassed over 3 million subscribers on YouTube as well as having over 1 billion views on all of her YouTube videos – unheard of for an artist this young in to their career. Produced in collaboration with YouTube Music as part of the Artist On The Rise program, this fantastic videoexplores Tones And I’s journey from finding her passion in music, busking in the streets with her friends, to seeing herself on Times Square billboards. On top of all of this, Tones has amassed over 7.5 billion streams globally across her entire catalogue of music. If that isn’t enough, ‘Dance Monkey’ has now become the most Shazamed song of all time.
“Seeing Tones surpass seven billion global streams of ‘Dance Monkey’ within 12 months since release is a monumental achievement and we are incredibly proud of her,” Lemon Tree Music and Artists Only, who co-manage Tones worldwide, said in a statement.
“The management team are very excited for what’s to come this year and can’t wait for the world to hear the songs Tones has written.”
As well as it’s record-breaking ARIA chart run, ‘Dance Monkey’ holds the record for most days at the top of the global chart on Spotify (120 days), is certified double platinum in the USA, triple platinum in the UK, and 10 x platinum in Australia.
The news comes on the back of Tones And I’s latest single ‘Bad Child’, which is currently sitting in the top 20 of the ARIA Singles chart.
Tones is up for four awards at the 2020 APRAs, which will this year be live-streamed on 26 May, including Most Performed Australian Work, Most Performed Pop Work, Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year and Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year.
For her latest single ‘Bad Child’, Tones And I detailed the reasons behind the song explaining, “I’ve always wanted to write a song in someone else’s shoes; writing from their perspective. ‘Bad Child’ was the first time I got to do that. It’s seeing life growing up through someone else’s eyes.”
